About the Book
This book which is a collection of speeches delivered by Mr. E. Ahamed at the UN General Assembly and Security Council, over the years, presents at one place in a succinct manner, articulation of India’s weltanschauung on various difficult and sensitive subjects of international relations that have also helped shape the world’s views on those very subjects.
This compilation is both timely and topical as the world confronts a multitude of challenges and crises encompassing global economic meltdown; war against terror; non-conventional threats to security; energy crisis; global warming; poverty, hunger and destitution; and above all a sheer lack of apt global governance to handle these in an integrated and apolitical manner.
The underlying philosophy of speeches underscores the need for adopting an integrated approach to solve various problems. It emphasises implementation over mere pronouncements and reiterates that denouncing force for the resolution of any conflict, be it ethnic, religious, regional or economic, is the only way forward.

Development of all types is dependent on right decision. Right decision in turn depends on right information at right time. Information remains an essential input for research and development of all types. The progress of society is dependent on the level of information its people have. Information, therefore, needs to be communicated freely, with unrestricted flow.
There is information explosion now. The problem today is how to cope with this huge and difficult-to- control mass of information. How to provide a right user his right information by sorting out the core- information from ever-expanding mass of chaff is another problem. The processing, retrieving, evaluating, and packaging of generated information is one aspect, communication of pin-pointed and exhaustive information to the scholars, scientists, specialists, decision-makers and other consumers is another, and more important one. In this process of managing and communication of information, the present day technological advances are playing a vital role. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in fact have brought about a revolution. Computers are now being used for the processing, consolidating, and communicating information. Telecommunication networks are there to handle digital machine readable data and to transfer it. ICT advances have made it possible to provide library services and access to information even outside the library. The LIS scene as such is changing fast in the face of new challenges and in response to new demands. The advent of new technologies and their application to LIS work and services has further accelerated the pace of this change. Today, total knowledge and information, which is presently available in the libraries, can be put on the World Wide Web, making the libraries totally
web-based.
Peers in the field of Library and Information Science have come together and joined hands to present the ICT Based Information Management in Indian Libraries. This Volume contains in all 34 papers: Two on Sahoo, five on Knowledge Management, 17 on ICT Application, two on HRD, two on Reading Habits and Accessing Information, two on Information Seeking Behaviour and four on other related topics. And all this as a tribute to and in honour of Professor (Dr.) K.C. Sahoo, Dean, Dr. Harisingh Gour University, Sagar(M.P.)

About the Book
The undeniable ground reality is that the LIS professionals are the backbone of any kind of library and information system. The successful implementation and management of a library and information services facility largely depends upon the wholehearted commitment and sincere efforts of the LIS professionals. Undoubtedly, the successful library and information services are the ones, which are tuned towards fulfilling the overall objectives  and goals of their parent organizations.  In India, in the present digital information era, the LIS professionals are consciously and constantly putting inthe much needed professional efforts in designing, developing and delivering modern library, information and knowledge management services. It is also heartening to note that the LIS professionals are spearheading a number of new strategic initiatives such as library resources digitization projects, LIS modernization programmes, knowledge management, offering information and digital literacy programmes, innovative library collection development, including facilitating access to e-resources, and so on. In the process of implementing and managing several such LIS projects, a lot of learning takes place at the local levels. However, for the overall development and growth of library and information services facilities at regional, national and even at the international level, it is a must that we all come together, collectively share and debate our new ideas, learning, success stories, best practices, problems and learn from each other for the betterment of our libraries, thereby, equip ourselves to offer improved and value-added library and information services to our user communities.
It is in this backdrop and vision, the MANLIBNET (Management Libraries Network) and the Indian Institute of Management Indore (IIM Indore) have come together and organized a very timely International Conference MANLIBNET 2012, on the theme ‘Creating Wisdom and Knowledge Through Shared Learning: Role of Librarians and Information Managers” during October 11-13, 2012, hosted at the IIM Indore. The discussion and deliberations of the Conference are largely devoted to the said main theme and the following sub-themes:
1.  Library Services and Technology
2.  Library Services: Tools and Applications
3.  Knowledge Access and Discovery: New Trends
4.  Marketing of Library and Information Services
5.  Professional Competencies, Education and Training of LIS Professionals
6.  Measuring and Developing User Services
7.  Information Security and Technology
8.         Web Resources: Policy and Planning for Libraries
