ABOUT THE BOOK :-

‘Resources are not, they become’ is a famous doctrine propounded by Erich W.Zimmermann Resources in general and natural resources in particular need to be managed and planned in such a way that they become capable of feeding the billions along with satisfying their other needs and wants. Being universally true, the problem is most pressing for the developing world in general and India in particular. Managing the resources in a backward, hilly and mountainous state of Jammu and Kashmir is still more important.
It is in this context that the author, Prof. Gurbakhsh Singh, has taken up only three resources viz. people, land and forests of Jammu region of Jammu & Kashmir state for their assessment over time and space so that this assessment becomes handy for the future planning of these resources for their optimal utilization. He has taken large number of relevant and cogent parameters to discuss these resources. Besides, deliberating briefly on the environmental settings of study region he has dwelt upon various elements of population which greatly influence the use of the land. While discussing land as a resource all the nine categories of land use have been defined and discussed along with newly created tenth category-“The potential agricultural land” in their spatial and temporal context. Agricultural regionalization is based on four cogent parameters of agricultural productivity, ranking of crops, crop combination and crop diversification. Besides all this, levels of agricultural development have been obtained by selecting ten relevant variables. Forests are by far the most important resource of the study region and as such only four commercially important species based on four parametric angles viz distribution of areas, growing stock (a b h), density and volume of growing stock have been dealt with in such a way that future planners can be helped in taking decisions. All these aspects of three important resources are depicted by more than one hundred and seventy maps (plates) which give it a shape of an Atlas and make the work more comprehensive and authentic.

ABOUT THE BOOK :-

Globalization and its impact on growth and development of an economy, especially developing economies, has been a subject of debate among the academic and policy circles. The advocates of globalization argued that globalization has enlarged the frontiers of market economy with increased faith in private capital, which opened up opportunities to access international market and technology. It is also expected that technology transfer increases higher productivity and ensures higher growth and standard of living. Contradictorily, skeptics argued that globalization gives rise to new challenges such as growing inequalities, market instability and environmental concerns. With reduced trade and investment barriers after 1990s, India has entered the phase of globalization. Although India has emerged as one of the fastest growing economies of the world in the globalized era, it is beset with a host of socio-economic and development related problems. In this context, this book examines diverse topics of contemporary relevance such as industrial performance, trade liberalization and its impact on employment, capital outflows, remittance and the impact of external shocks on Indian economy in the globalized era. The essays analyze India's recent performances and explore the key economic challenges faced by the economy in the changing international arena. This volume will be helpful for the students of economics and development studies, academics, researchers, policymakers, analysts and general readers.

About the Book
This book which is a collection of speeches delivered by Mr. E. Ahamed at the UN General Assembly and Security Council, over the years, presents at one place in a succinct manner, articulation of India’s weltanschauung on various difficult and sensitive subjects of international relations that have also helped shape the world’s views on those very subjects.
This compilation is both timely and topical as the world confronts a multitude of challenges and crises encompassing global economic meltdown; war against terror; non-conventional threats to security; energy crisis; global warming; poverty, hunger and destitution; and above all a sheer lack of apt global governance to handle these in an integrated and apolitical manner.
The underlying philosophy of speeches underscores the need for adopting an integrated approach to solve various problems. It emphasises implementation over mere pronouncements and reiterates that denouncing force for the resolution of any conflict, be it ethnic, religious, regional or economic, is the only way forward.

Development of all types is dependent on right decision. Right decision in turn depends on right information at right time. Information remains an essential input for research and development of all types. The progress of society is dependent on the level of information its people have. Information, therefore, needs to be communicated freely, with unrestricted flow.
There is information explosion now. The problem today is how to cope with this huge and difficult-to- control mass of information. How to provide a right user his right information by sorting out the core- information from ever-expanding mass of chaff is another problem. The processing, retrieving, evaluating, and packaging of generated information is one aspect, communication of pin-pointed and exhaustive information to the scholars, scientists, specialists, decision-makers and other consumers is another, and more important one. In this process of managing and communication of information, the present day technological advances are playing a vital role. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in fact have brought about a revolution. Computers are now being used for the processing, consolidating, and communicating information. Telecommunication networks are there to handle digital machine readable data and to transfer it. ICT advances have made it possible to provide library services and access to information even outside the library. The LIS scene as such is changing fast in the face of new challenges and in response to new demands. The advent of new technologies and their application to LIS work and services has further accelerated the pace of this change. Today, total knowledge and information, which is presently available in the libraries, can be put on the World Wide Web, making the libraries totally
web-based.
Peers in the field of Library and Information Science have come together and joined hands to present the ICT Based Information Management in Indian Libraries. This Volume contains in all 34 papers: Two on Sahoo, five on Knowledge Management, 17 on ICT Application, two on HRD, two on Reading Habits and Accessing Information, two on Information Seeking Behaviour and four on other related topics. About the Book
The undeniable ground reality is that the LIS professionals are the backbone of any kind of library and information system. The successful implementation and management of a library and information services facility largely depends upon the wholehearted commitment and sincere efforts of the LIS professionals. Undoubtedly, the successful library and information services are the ones, which are tuned towards fulfilling the overall objectives  and goals of their parent organizations.  In India, in the present digital information era, the LIS professionals are consciously and constantly putting inthe much needed professional efforts in designing, developing and delivering modern library, information and knowledge management services. It is also heartening to note that the LIS professionals are spearheading a number of new strategic initiatives such as library resources digitization projects, LIS modernization programmes, knowledge management, offering information and digital literacy programmes, innovative library collection development, including facilitating access to e-resources, and so on. In the process of implementing and managing several such LIS projects, a lot of learning takes place at the local levels. However, for the overall development and growth of library and information services facilities at regional, national and even at the international level, it is a must that we all come together, collectively share and debate our new ideas, learning, success stories, best practices, problems and learn from each other for the betterment of our libraries, thereby, equip ourselves to offer improved and value-added library and information services to our user communities.
It is in this backdrop and vision, the MANLIBNET (Management Libraries Network) and the Indian Institute of Management Indore (IIM Indore) have come together and organized a very timely International Conference MANLIBNET 2012, on the theme ‘Creating Wisdom and Knowledge Through Shared Learning: Role of Librarians and Information Managers” during October 11-13, 2012, hosted at the IIM Indore. The discussion and deliberations of the Conference are largely devoted to the said main theme and the following sub-themes:
1.  Library Services and Technology
2.  Library Services: Tools and Applications
3.  Knowledge Access and Discovery: New Trends
4.  Marketing of Library and Information Services
5.  Professional Competencies, Education and Training of LIS Professionals

About the Book

Being the heartland of India since its evolution, Madhya Pradesh has witnessed rise and fall of many civilizations and cultures in its wide spread valleys of Narmada bounded by the oldest mountain range of Vindhyachal hills in the North & Satpuda hills in the South.  Since Paleolithic period to till now, Madhya Pradesh has been the playground for various phenomena both natural and manmade of human settlement and development.  The story of human development started with the expression of rock dwellers on the walls of rock shelters, which transcended into the chant of Vedic hymns in the green valley of River Narmada.
Madhya Pradesh is full of the remains of thousands of temples erected by the Pratihara, Parmaras, Kachchhapghatas, Kalchuris, & Chandellas rulers in between 7th century to 14th centuries.  Starting with Gupta Dynasty the temple architecture kept on flourishing and reached its zenith during Chandellas rulers who ruled in the Northern Region of Madhya Pradesh.  The remains of these temples are still lying un-noticed, though; many have been protected and conserved.  The Shiva -Yogini Temple of Vyas Bhadora is one of such temples, which was lying un-cared since very long.  Built in grayish granite this temple group is known for its grandeur and exactness.  Located at 90 km from the site of Khajuraho temple groups, the temples of Vyas Bhadora could not shine until the Directorate of Archeology Archives & Museum Bhopal declared the site a protected monument in 1989.
The book attempts to recollect this Chandellas masterpiece of temple architecture and bring it into the notice of archeologists, tourists and temple lovers.  Once renovated and conserved, the site is going to be a seat of attraction for those who are curious to know and understand the glory of medieval India.  The main attractions of Vyas Bhadora temple group are the twin temples of Lord Shiva and temple of Chausath Yoginis.  The twin temple of Lord Shiva is unique which share the same jagati and mahamandap but different identical mukhamandapas and sanctums.  Similarly, the Yogini temple built in a square and having 69 brackets to house the images of Chausath Yoginis and other deities is chef d'oeuvre of temple craft. However, unfortunately none of the images is available presently at the site.  The symmetry of temple construction is fascinating.
