The book is also about the Quality of life, environmental conditions and people's perception on urban environmental problems as well as sustainability, and planning of Shimla urban agglomeration.
About the Author
Dr. Devendra Pirta
 is PhD in Geography with specialization in environment management and planning.  He worked as college lecturer for three years (1999-2001) before joining development sector in 2002. He has been associated with leading development sector agencies like UNDP and CASA and remained core team member in Glacial Lake Outburst Project. The author has researched widely on environmental issues, policy, planning and urban inclusive development, particularly in the context of land use and environmental planning. Dr. Devendra also contributed in water conservation initiatives of the government and remained regional water and sanitation committee member of the CAPART (Chandigarh) in 2008. He has more than 10 years experience in organizational development (OD) in administration, financial management and corporate social responsibility. At present he is heading EARTH Foundation, organization involved issues related to mountain people and environment in Himalayan region. His first book The Himachal Pradesh: The Himalayan State was published in 2006. This is his second endeavor and next book, Climate change: Environmental security and Geostrategy is in the press.
